Build Before You Pitch transforms early-stage technical founders into investment-ready entrepreneurs. Over 9 weeks, you’ll build the seven pillars of your business with an exceptional team of investors, attorneys, and industry executives.

Week 0: Submit Your Business Plan
A business plan template will be provided in advance. Complete and submit your plan by September 1.

Week 1: Business Plan Mastery (Virtual)
Instructor: Drew Felker, CEO & Cofounder, Carboniferous
Drew reviews your submitted business plan and sets the direction for your 9-week journey based on where you’re starting. Format: Q&A based on submitted plans.

Week 2 - Wednesday, September 9 : Why Do Startups Fail?
Instructor: George Parrish, Chief Evangelist, Bay Angels
Before you build, you need to know what breaks. George Parrish has evaluated hundreds of early-stage companies as an angel investor. In this session, he shares the most common reasons startups fail—and what founders can do differently from Day 1 to set themselves on the right path.
This is not a lecture. It is a conversation with an active investor who will be evaluating your pitch at Demo Day. Understanding how investors think before the pillar sessions begin will shape every decision you make over the next 8 weeks. Attendance is highly recommended.
Week 2: Customer Acquisition & Strategic Partnerships

Concrete strategies for finding your first customers, building partnerships, and pilot collaborations tailored to your sector.

Week 7: Value Proposition

Week 8: Pitch Practice & Demo Day Prep

Get Ready
Partnerships & Traction Workshop
August 26, 2026 · Led by Darlene Damm
A hands-on workshop helping founders build customer relationships and strategic partnerships before the program begins. Founders complete a pre-session questionnaire on customer discovery and partnership development. Attendance is recommended.
Program Portal & Pre-Session Assignments
All session materials, pre-work assignments, and resources are hosted on the Build Before You Pitch program portal. You will receive your login credentials by August 28.
Each session has a pre-work assignment that will be available on the portal one week before the session. Assignments must be submitted by the Tuesday before each session at the latest. This allows instructors to review your work and tailor the session to your specific needs.
Completing pre-work on time is essential. Our instructors are investors and industry executives who volunteer their time—arriving prepared is how you show respect for their commitment and get the most out of every session.

What Founders Need to Do
Before the Program
- Register on Eventbrite
- Complete and submit your business plan using the provided template by September 1
- Attend the Partnerships & Traction Workshop (August 26) — recommended
During the Program
- Attend all 9 weekly sessions (Fridays, 12:00–2:00 PM)
- Complete pre-work assignments on the portal by the Tuesday before each session
- Participate actively in discussions and exercises
- Engage with other founders and facilitators
- Complete weekly evaluation surveys
- Update your business plan after each session
- Attend the “Why Startups Fail” Lunch & Learn with George Parrish (September 9) — highly recommended. You will have the opportunity to meet the Bay Angels investor who will be evaluating your pitch at Demo Day.
Following the Financial Fundamentals Session
- Submit your final business plan by Monday, October 19, to be reviewed by industry experts and Daybreak Labs advisors
After Demo Day
- Send your first 90-day investor update
- Engage with the program facilitators and other founders
- Continue attending Daybreak Labs events and workshops
- Consider becoming a Daybreak Labs member
